RE: Advertised Summer Student Producer/Designer Position

Dear Gaijin

My name is Rob Goddard I am a Game Designer from the UK, I have just graduated from the University of Central Lancashire where I studied BA (Hons) Games Design at Futureworks – The Manchester School of Media. I am looking for my first foray into the industry and your position of Summer Student Producer/Designer strikes a chord not only with my ambitions to become a Designer and Producer but also with my love of music in gameplay.

I love Gaijin’s vision of amalgamating abstract visuals, innovation, music and gameplay. This is an idea I pursued also, having made a few game prototypes that explored different uses of music and simple art styles. I feel that my degree has prepared me for the industry and this opening is the perfect opportunity I am looking for.

I am a driven individual, and strive to push my own boundaries, ever pushing toward new ideas. This fits perfectly with the medium of games as innovation and finding a new player experience is key, not only for success but to advance the medium too. My goal is to join a closely knit team of creative people where I can comfortably produce and design content in collaboration. These games hold so much more personality.

As a designer I am highly computer literate with experience with 3D modelling packages like Autodesk 3DS Max and Mudbox, as well as skills in 2D art and Adobe Photoshop for concepting and texturing the games I create. As for the creation I am fairly experienced with UDK and am looking to expand my ability in programming to become a more efficient designer.

My years in education have taught me the importance of teamwork and working to deadlines, but also the competency to work alone, use initiative and lead a group. I have a broad interest in media in general (TV, Music, Film, Games etc) and I feel this knowledge really helps inform my creativity. Not only can I draw from many sources but I can analyse what to avoid or recognise what has been explored before.

Please find attached a copy of my CV and portfolio. Thank you for your consideration.

Kind Regards,

Rob Goddard
