RE: Advertised
Summer Student Producer/Designer Position
Dear Harmonix
My name is Rob
Goddard I am a Game Designer from the UK, I have just graduated from the
University of Central Lancashire where I studied BA (Hons) Games Design at
Futureworks – The Manchester School of Media. I am looking for my first foray
into the industry and your position of Summer Student Producer/Designer strikes
a chord not only with my ambitions to become a Designer and Producer but also
with my love of music in gameplay.
I love
Harmonix’s vision of amalgamating innovation, music and gameplay. This is an
idea I pursued also, having made a few game prototypes that explored different
uses of music. I feel that my degree has prepared me for the industry and this
opening is the perfect opportunity I am looking for.
I am a driven
individual, and strive to push my own boundaries, ever pushing toward new
ideas. This fits perfectly with the medium of games as innovation and finding a
new player experience is key, not only for success but to advance the medium
too. My goal is to work my way up to being a producer and designer on
inspirational games with character and passion behind them.
As a designer
I am highly computer literate with experience with 3D modelling packages like
Autodesk 3DS Max and Mudbox, as well as skills in 2D art and Adobe Photoshop
for concepting and texturing the games I create. As for the creation I am
fairly experienced with UDK and am looking to expand my ability in programming
to become a more efficient designer.
My years in
education have taught me the importance of teamwork and working to deadlines,
but also the competency to work alone, use initiative and lead a group. I have
a broad interest in media in general (TV, Music, Film, Games etc) and I feel
this knowledge really helps inform my creativity. Not only can I draw from many
sources but I can analyse what to avoid or recognise what has been explored
before.
Please find attached a copy of my CV and portfolio. Thank you for your consideration.
Kind Regards,
Rob Goddard
